Mixing up your workout is a great way to keep enjoying the Gym.
Mixing up your protein powder intake is exactly the same. Although a protein shake is often treated as a tasty reward after an intense workout, mixing up the way you take it can provide an exciting altenative to your daily shake.
We’ve got 5 ways you can get your daily protein dose without the shake…
#1 A delicious stack of protein pancakes!
Pancakes are absolutely delicious and everybody loves them but they can be a bit of a “gut bomb” leaving you feeling sluggish and tired.
Why not switch out some of the refined ingredients for your favourite protein powder!
For a low-carb diet just mix a scoop of protein powder with 2 or three egg whites and a mashed up banana. Pour into a hot pan and cook it like you would a regular pancake.
This version has around 180 calories per batch and is almost pure protein.
But if you want to mix it up a bit try adding the same scoop of protein powder combined with 3 or 4 egg whites, ¼ cup of dry oatmeal and some stevia. Pour that into a hot pan and top with a spoon of peanut butter.
There’s your daily dose of protein perfect for building lean muscle.
#2 Have a piece of cake!
If you love a piece of cheese-cake for desert but can’t indulge because you’re watching your waistline, try switching out a gluten packed cake recipe with protein powder.
Just take ½ a cup of fat free cream cheese and mix it with a scoop of your favourite protein powder along with some stevia.
Add a dash of milk to get a smooth consistency and refrigerate.
This is a great alternative to a cheesecake and can be served on it’s own or smeared on top of your favourite crackers.
If you want to liven it up a bit add some sliced strawberries or berries from the freezer.
#3 Have a cup of tea!
Tasty and refreshing this recipe can be enjoyed warm or cold.
Grab your favourite cup and make a cup of chai tea but be careful to only fill half the cup.
In a seperate bowl mix up ½ a scoop of vanilla protein powder with enough water to top up your chai tea.
Mix the two up, sprinkle some cinnamon on top and enjoy!
Chai tea with protein powder is a great way to boost your protein intake for the day without adding any extra fat or carbs to your diet.
#4 Enjoy a tasty fruit dip!
Fruit is a tasty snack that works as a great substitute for other foods you tend to snack on throughout the day.
To liven up your daily fruit intake try coupling it with a tasty fruit dip!
Mix up a scoop of your favourite protein powder with one cup of Greek yoghurt. Add in a tablespoon of peanut butter or if you’re allergic to nuts you can always use flax-seed oil.
Mix up the ingredients into a smooth consistency and place the dip in the fridge until your ready to serve it.
When your ready for a snack grab some fruit enjoy it with your protein packed fruit dip!
# 5 Enjoy some oats for breakky!
A great way to mix protein powder into your diet is to mix it in with dry oats.
Put ½ a cup of dry oats into a container along with a pinch of stevia for sweetness. Add one scoop of your favourite protein powder, mix it up with some water and there you have it.
This recipe forms a porridge like consistency that works great for a quick and easy breakfast.
For a bit of added flavour and healthy fats feel free to drop in a dollop of peanut butter.
Protein shakes can get a bit boring sometimes so try some of these tips to switch it up a bit. You still get all of your required protein intake but it just keeps it a little more exciting.
